9 Months Post Op Total Thyroidectomy and still having severe tightness in neck

9 Months post op Total Thyroidectomy and still having severe tightness in neck.  Been to 7 Dr. and no one can tell me why I can get no relief. No one has ever had a patient with this condition after surgery.  Have had every test and procedure out there and still no explanation why my neck is so tight, full, pulling and painful and the scar is still red, raised and painful.  Any thoughts - Where do I go from here?

You may need to consider surgical scar revision and procedure to relieve the tightness sensation.  I am not sure why you are feeling this way -- this is not the typical course after thyroidectomy.

Did you try a plastic surgeon? It may not be internal, it may be a keloid or a hypertrophic scar. I believe that any of these scars may affect the tightness of your skin and may cause you to have some of these symptoms. I know for a fact that keloids may cause discomfort or even pain. Good luck.

Lake Lover can you comment on my situation.  I'm going to see to see a laryngologist and a Head and Neck Dr. soon.  Could something have gone wrong during the surgery?

I haven't seen a plastic surgeon yet.

Thanks for the information.  The skin of my neck is not tight to touch it is the muscles inside of the neck that are tight that pull and draw especially towards the left I feel a bulge that is very tender to touch.  If I take my hands and apply pressure to both sides of my neck and actually hold my neck up it feels better but once I release my neck the tightness it back.  The scar also is still very tender and I feel it from end to end.

Thanks again for listening.
