actual cytology report--is this malignant?

by danniah, Apr 06, 2007 12:00AM
I had written in before after a brief phone conversation with my PCP (haven't heard from the endocrinologist yet), but today I got a copy of the actual cytology report. I'm 38 weeks pregnant and due on April 18th (in case pregnancy could have some influence in this situation.)

Left Nodule 1.3 cm complex nodule (noted as solid, though was told is partly cystic)
Atypical
Rare mildly atypical follicular cells and Hurthle cells
Blood, acute inflammation and hemosiderin-laden microphages.

Right Nodule 2cm cystic nodule
Negative for cytologic evidence of malignancy
Few groups of follicular cells
Blood adn hemosiderin-laden microphages

Is the "rare mildly atypical follicular and hurthle cells" indicative of cancer? Is there any way pregnancy influences this presentation? Is surgery likely? (Two weeks from giving birth I'm pretty preoccupied with what this all means for me and my new family)

I apologize as I know I asked a similar situation, but now that i have the actual report I can be more clear about the results.

thank you for any insight you may have!

Not sure -- my pathologist does not use 'atypical' -- it's either benign, cancer or suspicious -- most likely it's hashimotos BUT I would send the slides to an expert for second opinion -- ie, U Penn, U Florida, John Hopkins.  Can delay any surgery (if needed) until after delivery.

Thank you so much. I was tested last for thyroid antibodies last year at this time. I was tested after having two miscarriages and all the tests came back normal. Could they have popped up since? Would I have develeoped elevated ANAs or thyroid antibodies as a result of pregnancy? Thank you for your time!
