Enlarged thymus and spleen

by Mr Big Thymus, Apr 12, 2007 12:00AM
Recently, because I was suspected of having pneumonia, I had an x-ray taken of my chest.  The X-ray revealed that I did have pneumonia but my family dr was concerned because the thymus appeared to be enlarged as well.

I was then referred for a CT-scan.  The CT scan did reveal and enlarged thymus and also an enlarged liver.  The Dr. ordered 4 different blood tests and a urine sample.  He mentioned the possibility of Hodgkin's disease.

Since my visit, I have some of the "B-type" symptoms - weight loss, fatigue, itchiness (although localized to the palm of one hand) and back pain after drinking alcohol.  I wonder how many of these are pscyhosomatic...Before my last appointment, I'd generally been feeling pretty good.

In addition to this being HD, any other ideas as to what can cause an enlarged spleen and an enlarged thymus.  The waiting for results is driving me crazy.

While this is not a thyroid question per se, Graves can be associated with an enlarged thymus particularly in the setting of Myaesthenia Gravis.

But given the symptoms, would be best to check with a hematologist/oncologist to make sure the enlarged spleen, B symptoms, etc don't have any underlying cause.
