Confused/Frustrated

Not sure where to turn, so I am search the web for ansers.  I have normal thyroid levels, but because my throid is unusually large, my GP ordered the enzyme test.  The results showed early Graves.  The GP has desided to do nothing until my thyroid levels (I think TSH, T4 and T3) are abnormal.  Any words of advise?  Seems to me that I could be doing or taking something preventatively.

Hi Schmele, I was just curious what your symptoms are, besides the thyroid swelling.

ALSO: And here I go again! Again we have a person who has NORMAL hormone lab-levels but early Grave's Disease! Schmele, I hope you don't mind my using you as an example but your post is valuable.

Graves like Hashimoto's is an Autoimmnue Disease, which means you have antibodies against your thyroid. Here again is an example of autoimmune thyroid disease, with normal homone readings!

List those symptoms if you like, we are also learning on here and might can comment further.  THANKS

Schmele, Only follow-up blood testing will determine for sure but I do know Hashimoto's (autoimmune hypothyroidism) patients, can have spells of hyperthyroidism, early in the disease and some waver between hyper & hypo for quit some time into it. With this being the case, I sometimes wonder if a Dr. catches a hyper spell just right, that it might look like Grave's Disease at that moment in time. I also know that some of the same antibodies are found in both diseases.

You symptoms sound more like hypo than hyper as you said in your post. If he has told you follow up testing is needed in a couple or few months, this is probably why. Some people are told this, when the disease is already at treatable level, which is not nice to do to people but possibly yours isn't showing up enough yet to know how to treat. If you have the actual lab reports and want to, list those result numbers on here and you might get more imput from someone. Always get copies of labs, because they help you research it out.

The numbers I got today are TSH - 2.75 and my Abs-thyroglobulin = 269.  It is that antibody that makes them think it is Graves.
