HI DR.MARK,I ALL SO HAVE PAIN IN MY BONES.MY RIGHT HAS BECOME MORE AFFECTED SINCE THE STROKE.BUT I HAVE ALL WAYS HAD THIS PAIN IN MY BONES.IT IS IN MY BONES I KNOW,BE CAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE THEY ARE TRYING TO BREAK.I CAN'T SLEEP FROM THE PAIN AT NIGHT.I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE THYROID GLAND WOULD CAUSE NEURALGIA PAIN?I WOULD APPRECIATE A REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.THANK YOU TNT406.

The thyroid can cause nerve problems and in rare cases may make neuralgia worse - BUT - I would not think the thyroid would be the only cause of the pain particularly with relatively normal thyroid labs.  There is a syndrome called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) that causes strange neurological pains and bone pains - I do not think your bones are trying to break (a bone density may help support that you likely don't have osteoporosis at your age....but then again you did have a stroke at young age...).

I am severely hyperthyroid and I experience quite a bit of joint and bone aches.  I feel like I'd like to be able to take off my arms and legs at least and stand them in the corner so I can get a bit of sleep!!
