Can anyone tell me what is happening???

Here is the whole story...

In 02' I was diag with hypothyroidism and put on levoxyl. I started with alot of other problems later leg pain, numbness tingling, dizzyness, etc. I was sent to a neurologist to check for MS. He did lots of tests but none that would help with a diag. In early 03'I started with a goiter. I was sent for CT Scan, Ultrasound, thyroid scan and needle biopsy. They showed 4 masses in my neck/lymph nodes but the biopsy came back inconclusive. I had a total thyroidectomy and parathyroids (except one) removed. Since then I have continued to have the same problems. When I went to the Endo in Sept, they found another enlargement?;After doing an ultrasound I was told it is the Hashimoto Disease again and to come back in a year. A year is this right? I dont understand how it keeps coming back. Also what happens if it attacks my last parathyroid. Can someone help me?!!! Please.

Hashi won't attack the remaining parathyroid in most cases.  I don't know why the thryoid tissue is coming back - would be interested in doing the ultrasound myself to check it out -- then repeat the needle biopsy.  I presume the surgical specimens were negative for thyroid cancer and lymphoma.  Would keep TSH about 0.5 to suppress growth. If keeps coming back and it is clearly thyroid tissue - then consider radioactive iodine therapy.

are you saying you are still having leg pain, numbness and tingling, etc?  These can be hypo symptoms and I'm wondering if your T4 med is addressing your all your thyroid hormone needs.  Is it possible you would have less symptoms on a natural thyroid hormone like Armour or that you would do better with the addition of Cytomel (synthetic T3)?  I guess your doc is checking your Free T4 and Free T3 levels to make sure they are high enough to prevent symptoms.  But sometimes a person on a T4 med only will have low active thyroid hormone, T3..and thus continuing hypo symptoms.
