lump in penis

by Blake, Nov 12, 1999 12:00AM
I'm a 25 year old male, very healthy and fit. I'm concerned about a lump that I have. It is located in the middle of the shaft on the left side. It is not on the surface but it is in the middle we'll say. I can't see it pertruding or anything. And I would only notice it to feel it. It kind of feels like a little marble in there. I have had this condition for a while now. I'll say a couple of years, atleast 2 probably more. I haven't done anything about it because it doesn't really affect me other than not knowing what it is. I have no pain, no painful erections, no blood w/urinating, no painful discharge, nothing. I've read about peyronise disease but I dont have any curvature of the penis. Other than when it is limp but it looks normal as far as I can tell. I just recently was diagnosed with epidimitis. I am now on medication for this. This is the first time I've had any condition like this before. I didn't tell the urologist about the lump, again because it doesn't bother me. And I guess because of fear of what it might be. If you could give some advice on maybe what your opinion might be of the lump and if maybe there could be any corelation between the lump and the epidimitis it would be much appreciated. Does this sound like cancer?

Dear Blake,

It is hard for me to make a diagnosis over the internet because a physical examination is always important.  It would be important to know the size, consistency, location, mobility under the skin, and associated discoloration of overlying skin.  I don’t think this is any relation to epididimitis, nor do I think it is an active infection of any kind or your symptoms would get worse .  If you have had it for two years and your urologist did not see it when he or she examined you for the epididimitis, you probable have a benign condition,  However, I still think you should show it to your urologist when he or she sees you in follow-up for your epididimitis, but I don’t think it is an emergency.  Certainly, if it grows or changes color, you should see a doctor immediately.
