Discomfort when I sit

by swordfish, Mar 08, 2004 12:00AM
Felt discomfort in urethra, slight stinging when passing water, mainly in penis with slight twangs in lower urethra.

Noticed pus like discharge inside, in mornings.

Went to the doctors 16 Feb.

He prescribed a course of Trimethoprim and tested the urine which was clear, although I may have passed urine a few hours before the test.

Called the doc again on 19 Feb with the pain in the urethra (above anus) now very acute and constant.  Similar to an abscess type feeling.

Went to the GUM clinic in Royal 20 Feb pain so bad sleep disrupted. Pain killers having no effect.  Felt a lot of pain when receiving swab test.  Urine tested positive for infection.  Prescribed Doxycycline.  Awaiting swab results.  Pain subsided after 2 days and recommenced on 3rd day.

Pain not abscess like but constant when sitting.  Sensation of pressure when sitting.  No major pain when touching area with hand.  Just above anus and below scrotum.

Went to GUM clinic Norwich 27 Feb.  Felt no pain when taking swab test. Tested positive for urine infection prescribed Erthromycin.  4 days into course no change, pain worsening when sitting.

Phoned for test results from Belfast, 4 March.  All results negative:  Chlamydia test and blood test all clear.

Pain continues in area between anus and scrotum but has moved to discomfort switching between a needle like pain and a dull continual pain.  There is definitely unusual feeling in lower urethra area when passing water.  There doesn’t appear to be any lumps etc but pain increases slightly after touching this area.

One consideration would be a prostate infection.  There are some cases of prostatitis which are difficult to diagnose and may require an extended course of antibiotics.

I would suggest a thorough digital rectal exam, including prostatis massage, where the prostatic secretions can be analyzed and cultured.

If the symptoms continue, you may want to consider a transrectal ultrasound which can image the prostate for any infection or abscess.

If the symptoms continue, you may want to consider a cystoscopy which can evaluate for any anatomical abnormalities - such as urethral strictures or polyps - which can cause the symptoms.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
