i am having spikes of high blood pressure, chest pressure and fast beats. i have been to the emergency room many times and all test are always normal. i am on b/p meds and this is still happen  -ing. i have a compressed pituitary, enlarged thyroid/cyst&nods., a small adrenal cyst. most hormone test are normal. my doctor is not sure what is going on here. could endo   -crine problem affect my heart. inside of me when i get these spikes it feels as if everything is haywire but by the time i get to the hospital or my drs. office all i have left is high pressure and fast heart rate eve thought i,m on meds. i last for about a hour and then everything goes back to normal. my cardiologist think something is causing all of this but just does,t know what or how to find the problem. any sujestions?

Dear Joan,

The endocrine system affects the entire body including the heart so there are multiple ways that it could be influenced.  I would make sure your doctors have checked a thyroid level and have screened for a pheochromocytoma (adrenal tumor).  If these are negative you may need to have further cardiac testing including a Holter monitor, stress test and possibly catheterization.

i just got the results today from the holter mon. the dr. said it only showed periods of fast heart rate and that i shouldn,t worry about it.  i am also doing a 24 hr. urine today. i,ve had the in the past and they have been neg. last night i had another bad     episode of extreme heart pounding,& racing, blurred vision, numb  right arm and leg and i,ve been getting this every few hours.    my blood pressure goes up to 150/100 and heart rate 95-100. i,m on norvacs and xanax but it has no effect when i have these episodes. this is the worse and the longest(2 weeks) that i have had this. i,m so weak i don,t know how much i can take of this trama. i also have a heriated mass pressing on my spine and white  matter changes on my mri that i had last week, but i do not think this is contributing to these attacks. I had a stress test 8 years ago and i was to weak to do it so i had the thalium and it was neg. every thing has been pointing to a kind of heart irr.  but i believe other things are causing it but what?

Joan, Reading everything you wrote remind me of my son who is 15 and having the same symptoms. Just like you no one has been able to figure out what is going on. He has episoides of fast hrt rates multiple times a day as high as 210bpm, He's had electrical studies done, halter monitors which show the high hrt rate but no answers, stress tests, he"s on medication (not helping) 24hr urine test which was neg, and bld work which was slightly high but not high enough they say for a adrinal gland tumor, This has been going on for a year now. He's no longer aloud to participate in sports because of the hrt rate, and chest pain and SOB that goes along with it. We are going to see the Endo docs on monday to repeat al the test again to see if they missed something. If you get any answers please post it, it might help us, I will do the some. Good luck I hope you find the answer.
