Question Title: Constant Irritation Stomach Cancer fears !!

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Stomach Conditions

I'm a female, age 31. For 2 months I've had a constant 'stomach' irritation. The location is above the navel a few inches and goes up to the bottom of rib cage. The irritated area encompasses the size of a small fist. The irritation ranges from mild always-present to more intense but not very painful. I also have unexplained fatigue. (Dr. thinks that is possibly a low hormone problem). My Dr. gave me an untrasound looking for gallstones but were none. (Family history of gallbladder problems. next he wants me to go to Nuclear medicine and have an injection and scan to see if gallbladder function is normal. Do you think this is necessary or should focus be put on stomach? He has not checked into stomach being the cause of problem yet. I want to find the answer, but want to limit the tests to only those necessary. the 'irritation' is always presents, whether I've just eaten or not. I do not have immediate reactions after meals, and just last night had a bit of pain . Should I just go along with all the tests? I don't want a lot of radiation exposure. Thank You.

Dear Judy,
There are many different causes for abdominal pain similar to that which you describe. Personally, I would not investigate the gall bladder(based on the information that you provided in this posting) but it is very possible that you rphysician obtained a differnt history. Your symptoms are vague and therefore it will be necessary to do several different tests. You will probably require a barium study of the stomah and small intestine.

This information is presented for educational purposes. Asjk specific questions to your personal physician.
