Question Title: Reflux in Children

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Reflux Esophagitis

My son suffered an extreme case of Reflux when he was 5 going on 6. The doctor gave him Pepcid, which we were told is not normally prescribed for children. There was some research done about the dosage, but we were assured that it was safe.

I read on this forum that there is a relation between reflux and dental problems.

Which leads me to my question. My son is now 7 1/2 and his six year old molars have come in and they are very gray and the enamel is described by our dentist as being chalky.

His front teeth are not gray, but very spotted and again the enamel is chalky.

Could Pepcid have an impact on teeth that have not yet erupted? Could acid have this impact?

We are just searching for some answers to how this could have happened?

Thank You,
______
Dear Jennifer,
ASdults with esophageal reflux have an increased incidence of dental cavities because the refluxed acid destroys the enamel. The questions that you ask regarding your child's teeth are best answered by a pediatric dentist.
