Hi,

I have upper right side pain...just near the ribs..I have had an upper gast invest. with the tube down that throat. the doctor did a biopsy and found I have H.Plyori I am now going on treatment called losec HP7...but I cannot take the amoxil that is in it...I am allergic to penicillin..so I am only taking going to take the two other medications in it...

do you think that this treatment will still work  without that drug in it...

Also how effective is this treatment? does the H Pylori return?

And is there an easy method to find out if it is gone?

thanks for your time. I hope you don't mind me asking more that

1 question. I suffer from anxiety, and it takes alot of me to take meds...

Dear Lily,

The efficacy of h. pylori eradication rates varies from about 80-90%.  REcurrence of infection can occur but is not common. To determine if you have eradicated the infection, you can have a yrea breath test approximately 1 month after stopping treatment.  This test will detect whether the infection has been cured.

I'm not a doctor, but I think you need to talk with yours about a different treatment if you are allergic to the amoxil in the drug.  H. pylori is a bacteria, it needs an antibiotic to kill it.  Amoxil is an antibiotic.  Therefor, if you don't take the antibiotic, you won't kill the bacteria and won't help the problem.  Hope I helped some.

I have been treated for H-pylori and did not take the amoxil. I took tetracycline and flagyl and peptobismol. It seems to have worked and has not returned. I have been restested numerous times. There is now a breath test for it, don't know how effective it is.

My retests were all by scope due to other problems. Hope I've helped

I've also been treated recently for h.pylori.  I had stomach pains directly across the top portion of my stomach.  The pain felt like an ulcer because it would improve upon eating a meal. My dr finally discovered that I had h.pylori but upper GI tests didn't reveal ulcers.  It's been 3 weeks since I finished the antibiotic treatment and I'm still having the pains.  It has improved somewhat but still not totally gone yet.  How long does it take after finishing treatment for the pain to go away ???  I want my old stomach back !!!
