Advanced HCC

by #misha, Jun 09, 2001 12:00AM
Hi:

My 39 year old uncle was diagnosed with advanced HCC approx. 1 month ago & was told that he has < 6 months to live.  At the time of dx. his tumor size was 7.5cm x 10cm & the hepatic portal vein is occluded. His primary physician referred him to MD Anderson but he has to wait a whole month for the initial consultation.  Since time is so limited, I am afraid that he can't afford the wait.  The news of his condition was a shock to all of us and we feel so paralyzed by it.  He was also told that his best hope is a liver transplant. How does one get on a transplant list? Can he even wait long enough for a transplant? Right now, he's looking into RFA & systemic chemotherapy but doesn't know if the hospital will provide him with those options.

Any advice on a course of action would be greatly appreciated.  He has 3 small children and I want him around to see them grow up.

Thank you.
