Post CMV child continues with high liver enzymes

by Rodney, Jun 24, 2001 12:00AM
My 6 yo daughter had an acute CMV infection in early April with secondary strep infection & elevated liver enzymes--SGOT & SGPT were in the 700 range.  Stomach was distended & complained of upper stomach pain. Hepatitis profile done & came back negative.  In May, distention had subsided & her liver & spleen were palpable.  Liver enzymes had dropped to 200 & 300 ranges.  Dr. thought running it's course & doing well.  No complaints of abdominal pain or lethargy.  Now, mid-June, when re-tested, liver enzymes are elevated--SGOT in the 700's & SGPT over 1,000.  My daughter will be seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist.  Her Dr. wonders if maybe she had previous problems with liver that were not identified until her CMV infection.  She had not taken any Tylenol since all of this, but she ran high fevers for 11 days prior to diagnosis finally made.  What kind of tests might be run now?  Could any of this be related to jaundice as baby (bilirubin 23.0)?  Could she have permanent liver damage?
