MEDICAL RECORDS AND TESTING BEFORE ENDOSCOPY

by campuspig, Aug 16, 2001 12:00AM
I was just referred to a new Gastroenterologist. I have a long History of stomach problems. I saw him and will be doing a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. He told me he did not need to do an EKG or Blood work. He also is not requesting my previous Medical Records. I have a problem with this since he doesn't know any of my Medical History,he only spoke with me for maybe ten minutes. Please advise me if he should get more information before doing these procedures.

He may want to learn of your symptoms and your history by performing the tests himself and speaking with you.  He may be leary that he might form an opinion based on your past medical tests and history rather than keeping an open mind and relying solely on his own intuitions.  I think I'd give him a chance, but if you begin to feel the lease bit uncomfortable in the care you are receiving, you don't have to put up with it.  There are many outstanding GI's out there.  Best of luck, I hope all turns out well for you.
