ARE THESE SYMPTOMS OF LIVER DISEASE??

by SASSYLADY, Oct 07, 2001 12:00AM
MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR ELEVATED LIVER ENZYMES FOR ABOUT THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. THEY ARE ALWAYS ELEVATED. HE HAD A LIVER BIOPSY LAST YEAR AND THEY FOUND THAT HE HAD A BUILD UP OF LYMPHOCYTES AROUND THE BILE DUCT AND AN ENLARGED SPLEEN.THIS ON TOP OF ELEVATED LIVER ENZYMES. HIS LAST GGT TEST WAS 320. THE ALKALINE PHOSPHATES AND OTHER TEST WERE ALL WELL ABOVE NORMAL. JUST THIS PAST WEDNESDAY HE HAD AN ULTRASOUND DONE AND I FOUND OUT THAT IT SHOWED SOME DENSITY IN THE LIVER. SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED ABOUT SERIOUS LIVER DISEASE. MY HUSBAND IS NOT A HEAVY DRINKER. HE HAS MAYBE A SIX-PACK A MONTH, AND THAT IS STRETCHING IT. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. I AM VERY WORRIED. HIS DOCTOR JUST KEEPS SAYING HE DOSEN'T KNOW.

is this a specialest you are seeing or a regular doctor ? some gastro and digestive specialest also specialies in hepatology.it would apear to me after taking a liver biopsy and ultra sound and blood work they would be able to answer your questions you need to get back iin touch with the doctor that did the biopsy and blood work and ask him to inform you fully on your husband condition and make sure you ask him to do so in layman terms so you can fully understand his condition. if he can not answer your questions i would sugest a second opion . because i had to go through few doctors before fully understanding the condition of my liver and to get a full diagnoses.best of luck and god bless.

I read yoru comment on your symptoms.  I have had the same symptoms and with pencil stin stools.  I have had a GB ultrasound, Colonoscopy, CT, Pelvic ultrasound, X-rays, bloodwork since Sept6.I have had 7 antiobiotics since July 23.  It would get better but as I went off the antib it would get worse. One dr. thought I had diverticulitis.  I do have a lot of diverticuli.  I don"t have pain on my left side.  I also have ovarian cysts.  I had same symptoms but not as severe in 97.  I had a barium enema, lower GI,and IVP on urinary tract.  Also 2 MRI on liver in 97 and 98.  Have 2 cysts on liver and several spots.  Dr did not seem concerned with that.  I had laproscopy thru navel by my GYN and she found an adhesion (bowel attached by scar tissue to abdominal wall)  Said was from a prior infection.  I had serious colitus when I was in my mid twenties.  I have noticed that I have a feeling of fullnes or need to burp with the pain in my uper right side under breast and it seems to go thru my back.   The pain worsens and seem to spread.  At times I cannot function when it goes down my right side.  Movement seems to make it worse.  I can get some relief by lying down. But it never goes completely away.   I have done a lot of manual labor in my life (roofing, plumbing, construction, had five broken bones.)I am not a complainer. I am presently taking an antibiotic for UTI.  After doing a lot of research, I feel that I have a combination of problems.  Possibly Kidneystones, GB, and another adhesion.  Will get the hidascan results of GB monday.  If I find out anything will let you know. I am 53.
