To whom it may concern,

My father has had multiple pain thru his upper and lower digestive track. He hasn't been able to drink, eat, or sleep well at all. He has lost weight, and I fear he is in high risk of dehydration. The symptoms have been apparent for probably three months or so, and have only gotten worse. He's been to the emergency six times without much resolve at all. We know he needs a gastroscopy done!! But this doctor has to refer another doctor and that doctor has to refer a specialist...and so on..

The fact is my dad is dying, without the ability to hold food in, much less water, I feel these drawn out appointments will kill him. He needs a specialist by tomorrow. I know gastroaligists are busy and have many other patients to tend to, but my dad doesn't have time. Other docters seem puzzled, and without this special scope brought in to examine my fathers stomach. I feel he is in a serious condition today, tomorrow is uncertain. My desparate question to you is what measures can I take to get him seen by a gastroaligist immediatly? We've already got appointments scheduled but they're too far away. Please Help...                      "Sincerly Desparate"

Hello, sorry to hear of your father's distress. I would think if he were truly in danger, you would be able to take him to the ER and they would admit him as an in-patient, if nothing else for the dehydration. With his history I would think they would put a GI doc on the case and he would be able to get scoped within a day or so. Sounds like you haven't had much luck with the ER though. Can you try another hospital perhaps? If he is unable to keep ANYTHING down at all for days on end, that would certainly qualify as a medical emergency - I would think. Otherwise, hopefully he can get enough nutrition to sustain himself until the scheduled appointments. Good luck.

I agree 100% with Wilson. Bring your dad to a GOOD hospital's emergency room, and INSIST they admit him into the hospital immediately! Do you have a family doctor who could tell the hospital to admit him as an in-patient?

They would need to feed him intravenously if he can't eat or drink! I think you're right to fear that he is in real danger of dehydration.

He needs a diagnosis and proper treatment NOW. INSIST ON THESE REASONABLE THINGS!!!

Good luck, and I hope he gets better soon.

Sincerely, Concerned lady
