Gastroschisis - Caesarean or vaginal delivery?

by ErynCK, Mar 15, 2002 12:00AM
My unborn child was diagnosed with gastroschisis three months ago. I have been told this entire time that I would have a c-section at 37 weeks. Now a doctor I have never met before has come in and told me to have the baby vaginally. I am not sure whether he is basing this on his own opinion or sound medical data. I want to do what is best for my unborn son. So I have gone in search of second, third, and fourth opinions. So what I would like to know if vaginal is safe for my child or should I go ahead with the c-section?

Hello, I did a quick search for you on GOOGLE and it seems that doctors now think there's no benefit to delivering early by C-Section and that a pregnancy should be allowed to progress to normal delivery. If I was you I'd just make sure I delivered in a large teaching hospital to ensure your child gets the best most up to date medical care. Best wishes.
