Accutane and Crohn's

by spice, Apr 11, 2002 12:00AM
My husband has been diagnosed with Crohn's in 2000, we just heard that some people who used Accutane also have gotten Crohn's who do we need to contact about this?  I did submit a report to the FDA today as well. We just want to make sure this is know to the correct people. Any info would be great.

Hi:

You are approaching this in the correct fashion by reporting any side effects to the FDA.

But I would like you to know, that the package information for Accutane does make it clear that Accutane may exacerbate Inflammatory bowel disease. Now, I do not believe that it has been shown to potentiate (which is what you are questioning) IBD, so this is something worth bringing to the FDA's attention.

Hope this helps,
