Lactose intolerance (I know because I have it) can cause bloating, diarrhea, lots of gas, cramping, etc. Sometimes, these symptoms appear as a delayed effect, like about 20 minutes or so after eating the milk product.
One way to avoid this problem, is to avoid eating or drinking milk products. Another thing that some lactose-intolerant people do, is to take lactase enzymes (Lactaid is one brand. There are many others), along with the first bite or sip of a milk product.
