Extreme Diarrhea... no weight loss

by Jenim24, Sep 24, 2002 12:00AM
Just curious if anyone else has diarrhea as much as me with out any weight loss.  I can drink something and 10 minutes later it comes right back out of me.  I go at least 5 times a day and it is very watery.  Also curious if anyone has a diet that prevents it. I take medication for IBS - it's an antispasmatic. But not sure it helps at all. I am also on Blood pressure medication. But even when I stop that, I still have the diarrhea.

Thanks - Jenn

I take a teaspoon of Metamucil in the morning and at night..and it does form your stools. It is not a laxative as most people believe..it's a good source of soluable fiber, something that is important especially to IBS sufferers.

You might also try a probiotic..you could have an over growth of bad bacteria in your intestinal tract and in your colon, which can also cause diahrea. It helps me anyways...it can be purchased in a Health Store of Drug store.

Best of Health to you, virgo

Ever consider that you may have lactose intolerance. Most people with bowel disorders have it, seems to go along with intestinal problems. your problem is a major symptom of it. I have mentioned this in another posting, it is in many things you wouldnt consider for people who are lactose intolerant. everyone assumes it means only dairy products, but if you are intolerant you must refrain from cold cut meats, unless kohsher, chinese foods, frozen french fries and salad dressings and not to mention all breads except italian and french (they contain no milk), cookies , crackers most candies. There is a similar ingredient in these foods that aggravates lactose intolerant people. One other suggestion, if you are a coffee drinker, its not the caffeine that aggravates the stomach, but the oil of the coffee bean. This was told to a friend by a doctor and when i stopped the coffee, the pain  and bloating and stool problems went away.

But i have also heard of using citracel at nighttime and it helps the balance of the intestines with the fiber it contains. Give it a try , avoiding the lactose and coffee and see what your results are. It takes awhile for the stomach to not have symptoms of the intolerance, some times days or a week. Depends on how much you have been eating and how often.
